Come in!

Tonight I finished a project I had been meaning to start for about two months. I painted "Invitation" by Shel Silverstein on a rock from the creek in North Carolina and placed it next to the front door. It isn't fancy but it is what I have been wanting.

It reads:

Invitation

if you are a dreamer, come in
it you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar
a hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...
if you're a pretender , come sit by my fire
for we have some flax-golden tales to spin
come in!
come in!

And Because I thought it needed some color, I added a heart with our initials on it. Cheesy but Sentimental.

(after looking at these pictures, I realize the outside of my house needs to be power washed)

Heaven on a Plate

For dinner tonight, we made homemade shrimp Alfredo on spinach pasta. It was better than I remember it being. We also made some garlic bread to go with it.

Alfredo Sauce

1 pint of heavy whipping cream
1/2 stick of butter
1 cup of Parmesan cheese (grated)
2-3 cloves of garlic (chopped)
1 teaspoon salt

Over low/medium heat, pour the heavy whipping cream in a medium saucepan. Melt in the butter. Stir in the garlic and salt. Stir in the Parmesan cheese very slowly. You want to make sure the cheese melts and you get a smoother sauce.

We sauteed 1 lb of shrimp with a little butter, garlic, and salt on the stove (we are a garlic loving family). We also boiled some spinach pasta nests (though they never stay in the nest form cause we stir it up in the pot with a little of the sauce to keep it from sticking).

Next time we are going to try it with a block of Parmesan and grate it ourselves as opposed to using the plastic jar stuff from Publix. In the pictures, you can barely see the sauce which really doesn't do it justice.

This is a very rich meal but it is also VERY good (well worth it).

Meet the latest additions to my household.

Unicorn Napkin Rings!

I found these wonderfully tacky napkin rings at the Salvation Army last Thursday for 99¢. When I first saw them, I giggled to myself at how ridiculous they looked and put them back.

However, no matter how hard I tried I could not get these gaudy things out of my mind.

They are made out of a hard clear plastic. I found a set that is selling for $10.00 on e-bay.

I am sure I will not use them for a fancy dinner party. And there aren't that many holidays that feature the unicorn.

But I can tell you they will be used.

I need no excuse to invite my girlfriend over for brunch, but now I definitely have one.

(please excuse wrinkled napkin)
